Collection IV, SOMNIIS expresses the emotional dilemma of being stuck in time. Life allows people to flow through trials and tribulations. Our creative director intended to depict the feelings of confusion and being torn between options. The moment an individual experiences choosing between what they love and knowing where they are trying to go. Sometimes you can’t take both. We decided to talk about the range of emotions one may experience in the midst of this time. It creates an atmosphere of confusion which can house so many different feelings. Hope, love and beauty, while you have resentment, disappointment, being staggered and frustrated. In this moment in time, a person can feel stuck, confused or in “A Between World”. The wide range of emotions creates a world of its own. With this explained, we took the time to show this by blending separate items of clothing together. Not one garment in this collection is made from a single piece of fabric rather multiple garments and scrap fabric blended together.

As an individual garment, no garment is “whole” on its own. The collection only makes sense when looked at together. Our creative director, Stanton Ridley explains that, this range of emotions only makes sense when looked at from afar. Hence we wanted to replicate this thought process. Many of the garments in this collection use a combination of 3 to 4 different items of clothing to create one unique piece. Our Skywalker bomber uses a blazer, bomber jacket and scrap fabric to create a new take on the bomber jacket. The fabrics were either reused or created from scratch. We’ve taken the opportunity to include our new direction of wearable technology to this body of work with the 2 L.E.D. (Light Emitting Diode) sweatpants, which use a combination of python computer language and L.E.D lighting. A technique and design that Stanton has had in undergraduate Engineering school, we have now brought it to luxury streetwear. These pants are reactive to sound. When the wearer is talking or loud music is being played near by, the lights will blink to a cadence of the beat. We are still developing better versions but this is our first rendition.
