// EPHESIANS 2:10 “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” This collection began its work 8 years before we created it. Our Creative Director brings the idea to the a start by having a conversation with his father about what the theme of this body of work should be centered around. The greek translation for “Workmanship” is “Poiema”. This word has an English translation of “Love Poem”. To put plainly, the building blocks of C6 centers around the notion that we are God’s Love Poem. This was and still remains a profound message to characterize our label. Therefore it was natural for us to create a collection centered around this idea.
As with every body of work that Somniis has created, our depiction of each vision is not always literal. Ephesians 2:10, serves as the “why” to this collection. The very nature and physical interpretation of what the clothing and theme looks like, depends on where our label is in life. This season we were inspired by a numerous amount of works of art; pulling from films such as Star Wars (original scores), Tron even Netflix’s hit short story series called “Zima Blue”. Musical artist such as Kid Cudi, Myles Davis, Missy Elliot and Al Green served as “ringtones” for how we wanted this season to feel. We created a sub-genre of clothing by mixing elements of urban wear with intergalactic uniform travel. As our audience has seen from the label’s start, the kimono has always been our signature item of clothing.
In this collection we brought back iconic Somniis garments with new interpretations by introducing our gradient kimono drenched in strappings throughout the garment. We have been able to mix course and soft materials together to bring about new feelings and looks to each item within this collection while chrome boot coverings serve as our “space-boot”. Brushed Wool and Lamb Skin characterize some of our Kimono Over-shirts while our team still remained steadfast in up-cycling for other Kimono Over-shirts within this collection. Our Brush Wool Over-shirt in black has a front mural panel created from scrap fabric used in C5 and C6. Our “Painter’s Jeans” are super over-sized using an up-cycled denim paired with our Kimono Trench coat which is made up of 3 different coats blended into one garment. In Fashion Design, this technique is called Hybridization. Least of all, we brought back a new interpretation of our Kimono Vest, which first made its sights in Collection II “Black Crowns”. This garment is characterized by a chrome vinyl finished laced with chrome and nylon kimono straps.
Debuting in Chelsea Manhattan, on our Creative Directors birthday, this collection has been dedicated to his father. A person who has not only encouraged him but our entire team. The opening look for Collection VI provided a strong feeling as Al Green’s “Love & Happiness” played in the background. Items from the SBSJ ‘Basics’ Line also made appearances down the runway as we wanted to give viewers an up-close look at these “everyday” wear pieces. Our crowd was excited and eager to see the remaining looks from the moment Look 1 left the runway. C6 serves as our stamp to who we are as a label. Take this journey with us through the exploration of Collection VI ‘Poiema’.
